Lindale ISD Passes School Bonds November 11, 2009

Voters in the Lindale ISD have passed two bond proposals totalling $42 million.  Proposition 1 passed with 63.5 percent of the vote and Proposition 2 passed with 60% of the vote.

Proposition 1 includes the construction of a new junior high school, additional classrooms at the high school and an new field house at Eagle Stadium.

Proposition 2 includes a 1,200 seat auditorium, a new baseball and softball complex, improvements to Eagle Stadium and improvements to the tennis dressing facilities.

"It is an exciting day for our district and for the future of Lindale," LISD School Board President James K. "Red" Brown said.  "The voters have ratified what we asked them to do do and now the real work begins to build new facilities with the quality and integrity that our school district is known for.  This is a great step in the future of our community."

According to Superintendent, Stan Surratt, the new junior high school will include at least 28 regular classrooms, four science labs, a computer lab, art, speech, theater arts, journalism and vocational classrooms, a cafetorium, gymnasium, multiple practice and competition floors, multiple band practice rooms, outdoor practice fields, tennis courts and a 6-lane track.

School officials have purchased a site at Wood Springs Road and CR 474 for the new Junior High School.  The Auditorium will be constructed on the grounds of Lindale High School.

With the passage of the bonds, Lindale Primary School and Velma Penny Elementary School will be realigned to house grades 1-3.  E.J. Moss Intermediate and the current Lindale Junior High School which are side-by-side will become one educational campus and will house grades 4-6.  The new junior high school will house grades 7-8.

Surratt said the earliest possible completion date for the junior high would be August 2011.  With any delays, Surratt said the new school could open in August 2012 with grade realignment taking place at the same time.
